The South Dakota DOC is investigating the death of a 31-year-old inmate

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Authorities are investigating the death of a state prison inmate, according to a press release from the South Dakota Department of Corrections.

The inmate, Ray Palacio, 31, was transported overnight from the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Palacio was serving time in prison for possession of a controlled substance out of Roberts County.

According to the press release, the authorities suspect that it was a suicide incident.
