LINCOLN, Neb. (COLLEN) – According to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation, during the month of September 2022, 36 people died in traffic accidents on Nebraska highways.
- These 36 deaths occurred in 30 fatal accidents.
- Nine of the 27 occupants of the vehicle killed were not wearing seat belts, eleven were wearing seat belts, and seven were wearing seat belts, marked as unknown.
- Twenty-three of the dead were in rural areas.
- One of those killed was on the interstate, 24 on other highways, and eleven on local roads.
- 6 of the dead are motorcyclists.
- Three of the dead were pedestrians.
- One of those killed by a train.
- In September 2021, 22 people died.
- In 2022, only 50 of the 162 vehicle passengers who were killed were wearing seat belts.
