The murder trial will begin on Monday in Florence

FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) – Two homicide trials are scheduled to begin Monday in Lauderdale County.

One is the trial for Jesse Parker, who is accused of murdering Christopher Cobb in 2018. Another trial begins for Robert Hastings, who is accused of murdering his brother-in-law in 2017.

Jesse Parker has been charged with the murder of Christopher “Devan” Cobb for an incident that occurred in June 2018.

In 2018, members of Cobb’s family called the police after they were unable to contact him.

When the police went to check on him, they found the body of the 23-year-old inside his apartment.

Police say Jesse Parker and a woman named Hannah Burroughs lived near Cobb at the time of his death. Burroughs is also charged with murder. His trial date has not been set.

Another trial scheduled to begin on Tuesday concerns a man accused of murdering his brother-in-law.

According to prosecutors involved in the case, Hastings allegedly killed her brother-in-law, Justin Merriner, during a drug deal in 2017.

Hastings claimed he suffers from schizophrenia and has no memory of what happened to Merriner. Earlier this year, a jury ruled he was fit to stand trial.

Tryouts begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. WAFF 48 brings you the latest from the courtroom.
