MACON, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT)– If you’re looking for a taste of fair food, the Fair Food Frenzy returns to downtown Macon this weekend.
This is the third year that NewTown Macon has hosted the Madness. NewTown Macon Director Emily Hopkins said the goal of the funfair is to bring a taste of the fair to those who are unable to attend.
“The fair is wonderful, it’s a great event for the region, but you know not everyone wants to go and stand in line for fair food, so this just gives another creative way for people to enjoy that tradition,” Hopkins said. “We have thirteen restaurants participating in the frenzy. they have things like burgers with a patty on top, street corn, all kinds of great and delicious specials.”
More than a dozen participating restaurants, such as Macon Bagels, offer a variety of fair-inspired fare, such as handmade sausages and hot peppers.
“We wanted to come up with something that we could bake from scratch that would be a hoagie, and then what would go better on a sausage and pepper hoagie, that’s a very iconic honest to goodness food,” said Macon Bagels baker Mckinley Starks .
If you have a sweet tooth, Felicia’s Cake Factory has funnel cakes, cotton candy and cheesecake. Owner Felicia Howard says the frenzy doesn’t just give you a taste of the fair, it shares awareness of local restaurants.
“It gives them something to look forward to when we have events and host events like this here downtown,” she said. “It also gets you to know a different crowd that might not know about downtown Macon now that they have the exposure that they’re coming down and hopefully visiting more regularly.”
The frenzy is happening now and will continue until Sunday. For more information and a list of participating restaurants and specialties, go to NewTown Macon Facebook page.
