LINCOLN, Neb. (COLON) -Even though the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawk football players aren’t in school on fall break, they still travel to work with some of Lincoln Public Schools’ youngest athletes on the rise.
Fresh off their morning practice, the football team headed to Randolph Elementary School. The boys worked in teams with their coach to decide what exercises they would teach the kids. Their stations included throwing, blocking, catching and a celebration dance competition.
The camp is part of a partnership between LPS and CEDAR. CEDARS helps set up out-of-session camps for kids at Hartley, Clinton and Randolph Elementary.
“Not only is it fun, but it lights up a child’s face. It’s just amazing,” said CEDARS President Jim Blue. “When I saw the team play and practice with the kids, they just had a ball.”
Lincoln Southwest football coach Andrew Sherman said he hopes the camp shows his athletes the importance of giving back and inspires a love of football with the kids the team helps.
