The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization needs input on a long-term plan

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization needs your help to identify the driving needs of Hampton Roads.

The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) is updating the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to 2050. This month is your chance to provide input into a potential plan for the region.

This plan addresses future transportation needs in the region. As part of the development of the LRTP for 2050. the organization developed a public survey help identify regional priorities and important transport issues.

“The Long Range Plan is a regional transportation plan,” said Dale Stith, LRTP’s chief transportation planner. “It has about a 20-year planning horizon. It is multimodal and it is a plan in which we as a region say what our transport needs are.”

Current region 2045 LRTP covers a planning horizon of 2021 to 2045 and was adopted by the HRTPO in 2021. Because LRTPs are regularly updated (every five years in Hampton Roads) to reflect changing conditions,

In order to update the plan, LRTP needs your help to get the necessary feedback. You can provide this by completing a survey.

“That’s critical for us,” Stith said. “One of the challenges we have is that we’re talking about 20 years into the future and sometimes it’s hard to get people interested in that. But it really tells us what Hampton Roads’ priorities are, and we want to make sure it gets it right.”

To complete a quick survey, all you have to do is click here. It is open until October 31, 2022. Another transportation preference survey will be available in 2023.
