SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Halloween is a favorite holiday for many children, but now it’s not just for them, because dogs around the area will be dressing up and doing some trick or treating.
“Seeing the kids come with their dogs, the kids get so excited to see their dogs trick or treat,” owner Teri Jo Olean said.
This is the 6th year of the annual event at the Smoked Dakota Kennels and Backwoods in Harrisburg.
Trick-or-Treating for Dogs began thanks to Lydia Smith, who wanted to create a fun event for dogs and their families.

“We love to do anything with dogs, if we can do something with them we will do it and one year I decided it would be fun to have some stations that dogs can visit and it has grown .greater than I could ever imagine,” said Education Manager Lydia Smith.
The event has grown every year since its inception.
The event will feature food trucks, a bouncy house and vendors from around the area, including several animal rescues.
“It’s one of our biggest events of the year, so it’s awesome to see the whole community really get involved,” Smith said.
Trick-or-treating for dogs runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday nights.
