Sisters of Women’s Christine Brown talks parenting with Kody Brown

Almost on the same page. Christine Brown opened around the time she last saw her ex-husband Kody Brown — and how the two deal with co-parenting while living in separate states.

“So I haven’t talked to him in person in a while,” he said Sister Wives star, 50, exclusively told Us Weekly during an interview on Tuesday, October 18. “All I saw were episodes, for a while, and what I heard from Janelle [Brown] who is still talking to him and so on. … I think he’s still so hurt and he’s processing it a lot more slowly.”

Christine announced that she split from Kody, 53, in November 2021 and returned home to Utah while her ex stayed in Arizona. Kody has three wives: Mary Brown, Janelle Brown and Robyn Brown. The Wyoming native was legally married to Mary, 51, from 1990 to 2014, and the two are still spiritually married. Janelle, 53, a native of Wyoming, is also spiritually married. Kody legally married Robin, 44, in 2014, so he could legally adopt her children from a previous marriage.

Christine and Kody, who were spiritually married in 1994, share six children: son Paedon, 23, and daughters Aspyn, 27, Mykelti, 26, Gwendlyn, 20, Ysabel, 19, and Truely, 12. The couple’s ups and downs were documented on the 17th season of the TLC reality show, which premiered in September 2010.

Christine revealed Us that she started to realize she was going to leave Kody “in the last year for sure,” noting that the couple had more conversations about it and that her kids “could tell something was wrong.”

“I left before we got too angry and argued, I left before that,” she admitted. “I didn’t want that to be a part of it and if I had left him sooner, I might have left too angry. So I didn’t want to leave in a rage.”

Although the parents “go back and forth” about their children and arrange visits for Cody to see their youngest daughter, Christine said she “doesn’t think it’s co-parenting yet.”

Christine said things are still strained between her and Kody, but the pair still talk on the phone to give brief updates on their kids — like how their 12-year-old daughter really did win student of the month at her school.

“So I called him and told him. I sent him a picture and told him that she won Student of the Month,” the reality star said Us. “So he called her and congratulated her.”

Truth, for her part, learned of her parents’ divorce by overhearing the conversation, and Christine said Us that she was “more horrified” by how her daughter found out the news.

“So I just told Truely that we were already divorced because I didn’t want her to be uptight and think that we might get back together and [for] to worry about whether we will fight over her,” explained the reality star. “Because that was her biggest concern afterwards, she’s like, ‘Are you guys going to fight?’ And I said, ‘No, we just won’t, I’m not that person. I’m not going to sit there and argue.’”

Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10:00 PM ET.
