Sharkes Mercer’s family speaks out after 2 years of mourning his loss

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – A Meridian family that suffered a terrible loss in 2020 says it’s still hurting and waiting for justice.

Charkes Mercer, 25, was fatally shot while driving outside the Velma Youth Center. Kenneth Barrett, 21, was charged with Mercer’s murder. Barrett was in the passenger seat, police said. They did not give him a loan.

Mercer’s aunt, Camelia Mercer, spoke Wednesday about her family’s loss.

“There are no words to describe our bond. I might be having a bad day, I haven’t talked to Chuck at all, but the one thing he’s been trying to do is check on his aunt. He feels for me like I feel for him. felt. If they want to hurt our family, you did it. If you want to see us hurt, you certainly have it. If you want to take our lives, go ahead. These are just my words to describe the pain. are,” Mercer said.

Camelia Mercer said she believes more people were involved in her nephew’s death. A $20,000 reward is being offered for any information on the case.
