Prince William can’t forgive Harry’s ‘disrespect’, says expert

The wounds are still fresh. Despite coming together to mourn their late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II at her funeral last month, Prince William and Prince Harry remain in conflict.

“[When Harry stepped back from his royal duties]”It’s been very difficult for William, and I think that’s part of the reason why this rift hasn’t been resolved because, you know, William can’t fully forgive Harry for what he’s done,” the royal expert said. Katie Nicholl exclusively narrated Us Weeklyu Tuesday, October 11, during the promotion of his book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s legacy and the future of the crown.

She continued: “It had a huge impact on him, on [Princess] Catherine, about their young family. That put them in that primary center. It moved them center stage far earlier than they would have been otherwise. … I think William always expected to have his brother’s support. And I don’t think it was just Harry who decided to leave and retire. I think a lot of it was how he decided it and what William saw as a huge disrespect to the institution and to him, to his family, to his grandmother.”

Harry, 38, and his wife, Meghan Markle, moved to the United States in March 2020 after announcing their retirement as senior royals. According to Nicholl, the decision also had consequences for the Duke of Sussex’s relationship with his grandmother.

“I think, at the end of the day, it had to be black and white because it was about preserving the reputation and integrity of the crown and the institution. And so, while Harry and Meghan hoped there would be a third time for the Queen, it was very simple. You’re either in or you’re out,” she explained.

The William in love the author added it King Charles IIIwho took his rightful place as sovereign following Her Majesty’s death at the age of 96 on September 9, is hoping to mend the family’s relationship with Harry.

“Charles’ intention is to heal this family rift, to try and try to work things out, because he knows it will hang over his reign. There cannot be this rift in the heart of the royal family,” she explained.

The king’s sons gathered during their grandmother’s funeral. “Both have agreed to put aside any hard feelings,” the source said Us in September. However, their truce was only temporary, says Nicholl.

“The funeral was an opportunity to thaw what had become an incredibly icy relationship, certainly between William and Harry. Of course we saw them on that walk in Windsor. But I think any suggestion that there has been a long-term and meaningful reconciliation would be way off the mark. I think there is a way to go,” she said.
