FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — After two weeks without power, some families in Fort Myers Beach now have power.
The city of Fort Myers Beach shared a tweet saying that power had been restored to the first few homes on the island.
Families have completed inspections and received a permit that allows them to safely turn on the electricity.
As restoration continues in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is installing LED street lighting to ensure utility and waste removal crews can operate safely 24 hours a day. Also included is an update on power restoration efforts for the main electric feeder line.
Structures in Fort Myers Beach were severely affected by Hurricane Ian, with widespread visible damage to one or more structural and electrical components. The City of Fort Myers Beach considers most structures unsafe until a structural and electrical safety certification is performed.
