Pilot killed in plane crash in Brentwood

Brentwood, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Brentwood Police Department responded to a downed plane on Old Smyrna Road Tuesday morning.

BPD confirmed one person was killed in a small plane crash on Old Smyrna Road. The area from Jones Parkway to Edmondson Pike will be closed to traffic as members of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) arrive at the scene to investigate the incident.

The FAA reported that the plane was a single-engine Piper PA-32 and that the pilot was flying solo. It took off from the Springfield-Robertson County Airport in Springfield, Tenn., and was headed to the Fayetteville Municipal Airport in Fayetteville, Tenn. At present, the identity of the pilot is not known.

The road will be closed until the wreckage is cleared. The NTSB will begin investigating the crash on Wednesday.

Brentwood officials also confirmed that the plane downed multiple power lines when it landed, causing several outages in the area.
