ROCK ISLAND, IL. (KWQC) – After 162 years, Augustana College swore in its first female president on Saturday.
Dr. Andrea Talentino was announced as the college’s 9th president in December 2021, and Talentino says her first focus will be on how Augustana can help the community around the college.
“The concept of being a good neighbor and being a part of Rock Island, I think is really important,” Talentino said. “We need to think of our campus as a connection to the city. It’s not just where our last building is.”
After the ceremony, a street party was held. All money spent on food at the dinner will be donated to the Rock Island High School Pantry, which provides clothing and hygiene items for families in the Rock Island-Milan School District.
