Rail service was halted on the Blue Line Monday night as crews worked to extinguish a fire on pylons near the tracks.
The Revere Fire Department responded to the fire “just outside the Blue Line” just before 11 p.m., MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.
“Railway traffic was suspended for about 18 minutes while firefighters extinguished the flames,” Pesaturo said. “The utility pole is not part of MBTA infrastructure or property.”
Footage from Twitter user Roger Prata, who was on the stricken Blue Line train, shows flames falling from the swaying pole to the ground next to the tracks.
“While this was happening I was thinking about how to make alternative plans for tomorrow’s work,” he said on Twitter. “Thank God it didn’t completely cut power to the tracks.”
