Maryland man charged in Arlington police shooting – GNT NEWS

A Maryland man is facing several charges after he got into a shootout with Arlington police officers on Friday, authorities said.

The suspect is El-Amin Mutee, 44, of Waldorf, Maryland.

Police were called to Shirlington Road in the neighborhood off Glebe Road, near Interstate 395 and the Army Navy Country Club on Friday around 7:30 p.m. At the scene, officers encountered Mutee armed with a weapon, Arlington County police said in a statement.

Officers said they asked him to drop the weapon, but he refused and raised the weapon. The police then shot at him and wounded him.

Mutee remains in hospital with his injuries but is expected to recover.

He is charged with brandishing and criminal possession of a firearm. Police said additional charges are pending.

No police officers were injured.
