MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County puts the health of its employees first.

Most county offices are closed at 11:30 a.m. Friday morning for the county’s Employee Health and Mental Health Awareness Day.

The event, held at Carolyn Crayton Park, featured activities including yoga, a 3K race, games and giveaways. The county’s HR Wellness Coordinator, Shannon Dobbs, says it’s part of a wellness initiative the county is launching for county employees.

“We’re trying to reduce absenteeism in our workforce,” she said. “Many people call in sick because of little things. We want to try to mitigate that through education so that they are healthier and more aware.”

The county hopes to launch a points program next July through which county employees will be able to earn points for discounts on health insurance.
