Kimball’s Overweg Repair was named Retailer of the Year

PIERRE, SD (Dakota News Now) – Kimball’s Overweg Repair has been selected as the South Dakota Retailers Association’s top retailer. Presented annually since 1982, the Retailer of the Year Award is designed to recognize entrepreneurs who are committed to excellence in both their business and the local community.

Family-owned operation Overweg Repair is a small-town auto and truck repair shop owned by Dan and Corinne Overweg, according to a press release from the South Dakota retailer. Their two sons, Gavin and Hayden, work at the store, and their daughter, Alexa, has worked in the past.

Overweg’s renovation began in May 1985, when owner Dan Overweg opened the store with his father, Duane. What started as a small father and son auto repair facility has gone through multiple expansions to become a 30,000 square foot repair shop with ten full-time employees.

The basis of Repair Overweg’s success is their slogan: “Homeland repair from caring people”. Over many years of service, this mantra has become the standard that customers expect when they stop by our store.

“My satisfaction is that we help people. It’s kind of cool, “says Dan. Adding to this feeling, Corinne explained: “We never do everything we want to do in one day – no one does does not But if you can help someone, even just one person, it’s a good day.”

Although grateful for the award, the Overwegs are not in business for the attention or fame. Their only hope, if any, is to be recognized for happy customers and doing the right thing – and for Dan and Corinne, that’s all they’ve got.

“The Overweg renovation shows how South Dakota’s vendors are first-class operations,” said SDRA Executive Director Nathan Sanderson. “It is thanks to entrepreneurs like them that our state is known for its hospitality and friendliness.”

The South Dakota Retailers Association awards will be presented at the association’s annual meeting and awards reception at 4:30 p.m. on January 9, 2023 at the Ramkota Convention Center in Pierre.
