Come back for more! Sex and the City spinoff series And just like that returns for a second season.
HBO Max announced the news on Tuesday, March 22, just over a month after the finale debuted. “I’m thrilled and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, brave characters – played by these powerful, incredible actors,” the showrunner Michael Patrick King it is stated in the announcement. “The fact is that we are all delighted. And just like that … ours Sex life is back.”
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, added: “We’re thrilled with the cultural conversation these characters and their stories have generated, set in a world we already know and love so much. We are proud of the work that Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen. We can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for season two.”
Season 1 of And just like that premiered in December 2021, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprising their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York, respectively. Kim Cattrallwho played Samantha Jones in the original series and two movies, famously didn’t return — and that was just the first hurdle the revival faced.
In September 2021 Willie Garsonwho played Carrie’s friend Stanford Blatch, died of pancreatic cancer at age 57. The actor has already shot a few AJLT episode, but was originally slated to appear in all 10. King rewrote Stanford’s story after Garson’s death, and the character moved to Tokyo after splitting from Anthony (Mario Cantona).
“Before I knew Willie was sick and couldn’t finish it, Stanford was going to have a midlife crisis,” King said. Diversity in February. “Stanford’s character always had a borderline career as a manager, and we wanted to explore the fact that it wasn’t a real career. It will be Carrie and him, feeling the changes.”
A week after AJLT series premiere, multiple women accused Chris Noth sexual assault. The actor denied the allegations, but a planned cameo for his character Mr. Big in the season finale was scrapped. (Mr. Big was already killed in the first episode.)
After the allegations surfaced, an insider said Us Weekly that Parker was “heartbroken” by the allegations. “She’s fiercely protective of Carrie Bradshaw and angry that she and everyone else on the show has been put in this position,” the source explained. “It’s not about the money, it’s about her legacy. Carrie was all about helping women and now, under her watch, women are saying they’ve been hurt.”
