BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) -Quarterly financial reports from statewide candidates show big advantages for incumbents.
Senator John Hoven has raised nearly $3 million this year, according to the Federal Election Commission. Her challengers, Jamestown Rep. Katrina Christiansen and Bismarck Rep. Rick Becker, have raised $38,000 and $170,000, respectively. But Becker says the mixed financial reports aren’t necessarily representative of his support in the state.
“You have two weeks of fundraising and two weeks of spending, and then there’s a news report that says it’s compared to the current senator who’s been in the seat for 12 years, of course, it’s going to be infinitely worse. So our picture is much better than what these quarterly reports show,” Becker said.
The story of the incumbent and challenger in the race for the single seat in the US House is reflected in North Dakota. Incumbent Kelly Armstrong has nearly $2 million, while independent candidate Cara Mund has raised $77,000. Elections will be held on November 8.
