GREGORY, SD (Dakota News Now) – It’s purple hunting weekend and hunters from across the country are in South Dakota to experience it.
It mainly depends on the number of wild birds and open spaces.
In addition, many hunters travel for experience.
Paul Taggard is a hunting guide near Gregory, South Dakota, and he says he’s met many different hunters over the years.
“Every year I see two to three hundred hunters come to South Dakota from all over the United States, some even from overseas,” said Paul Taggard, a hunting guide.
He says it shows how big the season is in the state.
“South Dakota is the real deal; “We got a lot of wild birds and groupers, and I don’t care how many birds you kill in a day,” Taggard said.
Robert Alden is from Florida and has been coming to South Dakota to hunt for years.
He said that it is necessary to share the experience and continue the tradition.
“From forty-two years, I will be forty-one again; This is the first time I’ve brought my nephew who just started hunting and he loves it,” said Florida resident Robert Alden.
His nephew, Cole Shelton, says it’s an experience he won’t soon forget.
