Golden Valley has a new recreation area

GOLDEN VALLEY, ND (KFYR) – Park visitors are enjoying upgrades to playground equipment and access in Golden Valley.

The disused ice field has now been turned into a park. It has a slide, climbing and swing sets. Construction was completed at the end of September. A spokesperson for the North Dakota Department of Parks and Recreation says projects like this can make a real difference for residents living in small communities.

“It’s great because it’s just a community asset. To bring something or a space that’s extraordinary and provides something for the community to strengthen family bonds and have a place for the community to gather and come together, like I said, that fills my heart,” said Char Langehaug, grants. coordinator at the Dakota. The Department of Parks and Recreation aims to bring life back to unused spaces.

The project was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the North Dakota Department of Parks and Recreation and the Land and Water Conservation Fund and $25,000 in fundraising.

15 areas, including along Maah Daha Hay Parks, in Minot and Williams County parks and along state trails, also received funding from the North Dakota Department of Parks and Recreation and the Recreational Trails Program with improvements through 2023.
