Magic at midnight. Taylor Swift surprised fans at the 2022 Video Music Awards when she announced her tenth studio album while accepting the Video of the Year award.

“I’m so proud of what we made,” the 32-year-old singer said on Aug. 28 while hosting Moonperson for the short film “All Too Well.” “We couldn’t have made this short film without you, the fans. Because I wouldn’t be able to record my albums again if it wasn’t for you. You encouraged me to do it.”

The “Welcome to New York” singer continued to be excited to surprise her fans with some news: her next record.

“I decided that if you would be so generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun time to tell you that my brand new album is coming out on October 21st,” Swift told the crowd. “I’ll tell you more at midnight.”

When the clock struck 12 o’clock on August 29, the Grammy winner revealed that her new project is called At midnight. “Midnight, stories about 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be released on October 21. See you at midnight,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

In another photo, the pop star added: “We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at the walls and drink until they talk back. We curl up in cages of our own making and pray that we don’t – right now – make some fateful, life-changing mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through horrors and sweet dreams. The floors we walk on and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep our lanterns burning and go searching – hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet.”

The set of songs will be her 10th studio album, following a 2020 release Folklore and Evermore. Her last record, Red (Taylor’s Version)debuting in November 2021.

In addition to the intriguing artwork Swift shared with fans on the night of its release, the “Blank Space” singer teased more details leading up to the album’s launch.
