The Eugene School District 4J Board of Directors is scheduled to meet next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
The board will meet in closed executive session earlier at 5:30 p.m. Meetings will remain virtual following safety concerns during spring meetings.

The board will hear a presentation on fall enrollment numbers from Oscar Loureiro, director of research and planning for 4J. 4J saw a 0.2% drop in enrollment, according to a presentation included in the newspaper’s package. Currently, 15,681 students study in the district.
The presentation also highlights the large number of students who have returned to the district after transitioning to homeschooling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There will be additional discussion and possible action on statements in support of Measure 114, which would fundamentally change gun ownership in Oregon. If passed, it would require a license to purchase a firearm, require safety training and prohibit the sale of magazines with more than 10 rounds.
Board member Judy Newman led the motion for approval. Members discussed this measure at last week’s meeting.
Board member Laurel O’Rourke, the board’s only black member, said the measure doesn’t serve people of color, who may have more trouble meeting some of the new requirements for criminal background checks and paying fees.
The board is scheduled to consider the statement on Wednesday.
Other items on Wednesday’s agenda that the council will consider include:
- Approval of the procedure for electing two members of the community to sit on the district budget committee.
- Approve the school’s latest emergency response plan that protects the safety and well-being of students, staff and employees; ensuring a safe and coordinated response to emergencies; and protect the facilities and property of the district.
- Get information about the work of promoting the stock that the stock trainer assigns to the board members of the trainers and the key leaders of the district.
