All is fair in love and plural families! Kody Brown has been winning over audiences for years Sister Wives as the network investigates his relationship with his four wives – but do all the women get along?
Born Wyoming Married Mary Brown 1990. Three years later, Janelle Brown joined the family and Christine Brown followed in 1994. Only in 2010, that fourth wife, Robyn Browncame full circle.
Four years later, the Brown family faced another change when Kody divorced Mary to legally marry Robyn and adopt her three children from his first marriage.
“I didn’t sign up to be in this family just to have Kody in my life,” Robyn told Meri during a January 2022 episode of TLC before choking up. “As much as I love Kody and it’s great to have him around, it stresses me out. I’m worried about the kids who don’t see their dad, and I’m worried about the women who don’t see Kody.”
Robyn, who spent a lot of time with Kody during the 2020 COVID-19 shutdown, has been accused of stealing Kody’s attention for years.
That tension became even more apparent after Christine announced in November 2021 that she and Kody had separated after more than 25 years. (Kody remains in spiritual union with Mary and Janelle and is legally bound to Robyn.)
“I think it was very difficult at the beginning. Bringing families together is really hard,” Christine explained during the course Sister Wives: One on One special about everything, which aired in January 2022. “There was a lot of frustration and hurt feelings on both sides. We all went out [it] scarred. It was never my intention to alienate Robin and her children.”
Robyn, for her part, cried over how broken the Brown family had become in recent years. “It makes me angry. I just don’t know why they don’t understand these things and talk about it. Finding their compromise and finding the things they love about each other,” she said. “I can’t fix it for them. I can try and convince. I can beg. That’s my family.”
Christine’s ups and downs with Kody continued to play out throughout the TLC series’ 17th season, which aired in fall 2022 and taped in summer 2021. In addition to their split, it became clear that Kody’s COVID rules were keeping all the women apart — causing that even Robyn becomes frustrated with the lack of family involvement.
“I love Kody so much, but this is not what I chose. His other relationships are weighing him down so much that he’s not much fun to be around anyway,” Robyn said during the September 2022 episode. “He’s an angry man now. What’s going on with him and Christine… I’ve never seen him like this before.”
When Christine told Mary, Janelle and Robyn about her move to Utah, which fans saw during the October 2022 episode, she admitted she wasn’t sure how it would affect the women’s relationship going forward.
“I don’t want to burn bridges at the end of this,” Kristin told the cameras at the time. “I can no longer be their sister wife. I can be their friend.”
