LINCOLN, Neb. (COLOGNE) – Maybe it’s time to turn on the heaters….the next few days and nights will bring the cold to bitterly cold temperatures. High and low temperatures will be significantly cooler for this time of year, with some locations seeing record lows Tuesday morning. Mostly sunny and generally dry conditions will continue into the new week.
Monday will be chilly this week as many of us wake up to temperatures in the low 20s. With that said, a Freeze Advisory is in effect until 10:00 a.m. CDT for parts of northern Kansas and southwestern and south central Nebraska.

Monday will be a mostly sunny day with occasional partly cloudy skies in some western parts of the state. However, despite the sunshine, the day will be cold and windy. High temperatures in most of the Northeast will struggle to get above 40 degrees, while the rest of us will see temperatures in the 50s and a few in the Southwest in the low 60s. Windy conditions will remain for another day, with winds mostly out of the north at 10-15 mph and up to 25 mph. Now, thanks to that daytime breeze, it can be a few degrees cooler. With the daytime chills…comes COLD overnight lows. Thanks to clear skies and light winds, lows will drop into the TEENS and 20s. We could break some low temperature records, including here in Lincoln. Lincoln’s forecast low was 18 degrees and the previous record was 21 degrees set in 1972. Monday night and Tuesday morning will definitely be chilly and may be the first night where you actually need to turn on the heat.

Tuesday is expected to be even colder… with highs only in the 40s and 50s. The day will be mostly sunny and slightly cooler. The wind blows from the north at 10-15 m/s. A combination of mostly clear overnight conditions and light winds will allow temperatures to drop back into the tweens and 20s. So the heater should be on for the next few days!

But….after Tuesday the temperatures will rise and the heater can definitely be turned off as the highs will be back in the upper 70’s and the lows will be in the 50’s by the end of the week! Get ready for a week full of hot weather!
