FORECAST DISCUSSION:
Happy Monday!
Some of the coldest air of the season arrives to start the work week.
As the area of low pressure continues to turn north of us, more clouds and strong westerly breezes will come down. Wind gusts will reach 20-30 mph, which will not only bring cooler air, but create a wind chill that will make highs in the upper 40s look more like upper 30s to lower 40s. Today’s high will only reach about 48 degrees, just shy of the record for the coldest high temperature for this date, which was 45 degrees set in 1943.

Cold conditions will persist through the evening and overnight. Freeze watches and warnings will go into effect at 10pm and continue until 10am as lows drop into the 30s and further into the 20s away from the city. Keep in mind that frost and freezing conditions can damage plants and any exposed plumbing, so you’ll want to take precautions before this drastic cold snap.
With low temperatures and continued westerly breezes, we’ll see a slight chance of showers tonight through Tuesday. With temperatures starting in the 30s and then only reaching highs in the mid-40s, there will be a chance for a few flakes mixed in with a cool light rain. A chance for a light wintry mix will continue with plenty of clouds and cooler than normal highs only reaching the 40s. Despite the possibility of a few flurries, we do not expect measurable snow.
Have a nice day!
