I’m seriously amping it up! Channing Tatum was candid about the challenges of raising daughter Everly both before and after his split Jenna Dewan.
The former couple met on the set of films in 2006 Step Up and married in July 2009. Three years later, the partners discovered Dewan was pregnant with their first child – but their busy schedules didn’t slow down.
“We’re actually going to have a baby in London while I’m filming, and then there’s no downtime after that,” Tatum said Ryan Seacrest in an interview about the shoot Jupiter Ascending in the UK shortly before Dewan gave birth.
Us Weekly announced the news in June 2013 that the couple’s daughter had arrived a month early. “Channing is going to be the sweetest dad and do whatever it takes for Jenna to balance it all out,” a source exclusively revealed at the time.
Tatum quickly got back to work promoting his film The white house below after Everly’s arrival — but it wasn’t easy. “I work in London and you’re away from your daughter for 12 hours a day, 15 hours a day, you come back and you feel her face has changed from the time you left in the morning to the time you come back at night, so it’s quite difficult,” he said. Us and other journalists at the premiere in June 2013, adding that “nothing is more important” than being with your family.
When it comes to Everly’s Hollywood future, 21 Jump Street the actor hesitated. “You know, she’s going to grow up and do whatever she’s going to do,” he said. “I really have no influence. … I want him to have a grounded, beautiful life. But she’s going to do what she’s going to do.”
Five years later, The Lego Movie star and Flirty Dancing the presenter announced that she had broken up after almost a decade of marriage. Dewan filed for divorce in October 2018 Us confirmed in February 2020 that the judge had stopped the proceedings. (Dewan went on to welcome son Callum with his fiance Steve Kazee in March 2020)
Raising his little girl on his own was an adjustment, but Tatum jumped in head first. “I want dads to not be afraid to step into their daughter’s world and discover who they are,” he said. Parents magazine in April 2021. “When I became a single father, I had a lot of trepidation about connecting with Everly in every way a little girl could want. … I didn’t wear nail polish or know how to braid my hair. But now I do both.”
The Bullet Train star said that Everly was the inspiration for his children’s book The one and only Sparkella, adding: “Just like Sparkella, Evie loves to play tricks, wear crazy clothes and be different. She is brave, beautiful and magical in every way.”
