Hollywood is no stranger to sober celebrities, and many are using their experiences to help other alcoholics and addicts find the courage they need to begin their journey to sobriety. Meanwhile, other stars say they’re just grateful and want to live their lives outdoors.
Every once in a while, though, a celebrity will surprise the world and suddenly announce that they’ve gotten sober.
Kelly Osbournewho previously talked about being six years sober, revealed in April 2021 that she had relapsed and was working on next steps.
“I’m not proud of it. But I’m back on track,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
Two months later, ex Fashion Police star explained how the COVID-19 pandemic caused her to relapse during an appearance on Red Table Talk.
“I was alone, sitting by the pool and waiting for someone to come on a date with me. And I saw this woman and her husband drinking a glass of champagne. It looked really nice, and I said, ‘I can do that too,'” she shared in a June 2021 interview. “And the next day I drank two glasses. And the day after that, it was bottles.”
Osbourne also reflected on how the medical procedure triggered her addiction when she was younger, noting, “I had a really bad case of tonsillitis. They ended up having to give me some crazy surgery and then they gave me Vicodin and that was all I needed.”
demi lovatowho first entered drug and alcohol rehab in 2010, has used his experience to help others who may be struggling with similar issues.
“I think I turned to those coping mechanisms because I was really in so much pain that I didn’t want to die and I didn’t know what else to do. Sometimes I did the best I could, and now that I have other tools and other resources, I know how to cope differently and how to cope differently, so I don’t have to resort to those behaviors again,” Lovato revealed on an episode of the podcast “Yes , no, I’m not well” in March 2021.
The singer previously sought treatment and entered rehab in 2013, but after six years of sobriety, she relapsed and was rushed to hospital after a near-fatal drug overdose in 2018.
After the harrowing journey, Lovato shared what led to their relapse Dance with the devil filing in March 2021, later clarifying that they have decided not to completely eliminate marijuana and alcohol from their lives.
“I think I want to try this balance thing on the core side of my life as well,” the Disney Channel alum said Glamour magazine at the time. “One size fits all solution does not work for everyone. Any path that is right for someone else does not mean it is an effective, meaningful and safe path for you. … What I encourage people to do is make their own choices. Autonomy is what changed my life for me.”
