Cal Poly Soccer’s head coach is stepping down

Cal Poly Soccer is on the hunt for a new men’s head coach, with Steve Sampson announcing his retirement effective immediately.

Sampson has been the head coach for the last eight seasons at Cal Poly.

He helped lead the USA to the 1998 FIFA World Cup and led the LA Galaxy to the 2005 MLS Cup.

Sampson won a national title with Santa Clara in 1989.

At Cal Poly, he won 42 games and helped lead the Mustangs to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Associate head coach Billy McNicol will take charge of the final three games of the regular season as well as the Big West Conference Tournament games.
