An arrest warrant was issued in Ada County.

A Bingham County prosecutor has been charged with aggravated sexual battery.

James K. Roberts, 55, was charged with sexual battery in Ada County, according to court records.

Because the charge is a misdemeanor, information about the alleged crime is limited. However, court documents show Roberts was accused of grabbing a woman’s breast on April 13.

Boise Police Department spokeswoman Haley Kramer told the Idaho Statesman on Tuesday that the incident happened in the 1400 block of Entertainment Avenue in Boise and Boise police were notified.

An arrest warrant for Roberts was issued in Ada County on Oct. 13 and was served Monday morning in Oneida County.

Roberts was arrested before being released on his own recognizance. Court documents show a no-contact order was issued, barring Roberts from contacting the accuser.

EastIdahoNews.com attempted to reach Roberts for comment, but did not receive a response.

Roberts, a former deputy chief of staff, won the Republican nomination for the office in the May primary. He has served in that role since the retirement of former cornerback Nick Hirschi.

Bingham County officials are calling for Roberts’ resignation.

In a letter Released Monday afternoon, the county commissioners, prosecutor, sheriff, clerk, treasurer and counsel all called for Roberts to resign.

“The coroner’s office plays a very important role for Bingham County. These personal distractions should not interfere with the service provided by the coroner’s office,” the letter said. “Elected officials have a duty to serve Bingham County, and when elected officials face criminal charges, it places a heavy burden on the entire city due to the negative publicity it brings. To best serve the citizens of Bingham County and protect Bingham County, Due to the backlash, elected officials are coming together to demand the resignation of Bingham County Coroner James K. Roberts.
