A woman discovers possible human remains on the banks of the Mississippi River

COAHOMA CO., MISS. (WMC) – The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible human remains found along the dry Mississippi River.

“Because these water levels are so low, we knew it was going to be a while before the body was found,” said Coahoma County resident Crystal Foster.

On Saturday afternoon, Foster said he and his family went rock-picking along the Mississippi River like they always do, but this time, he says, they found more than rocks.

“Surprisingly, we came across some human remains,” Foster said.

Foster believes that bones from different parts of a human body.

“We know that we found a rib bone. “We found a lower bone, a jaw bone that had a tooth in it,” Foster said.

He said he contacted the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office after finding the bones.

“They immediately came up here with some officers, and taking them down, showed them the bone of the lower jaw which had been found; and also found the top half of the skull and saw other bones that were discovered as well,” Foster said.

Whether the skeletal remains are human or not, Foster hopes law enforcement will come up with answers.

“I just hope that the MBI works quickly on this case and is able to at least identify the victim in the dental records so that their family can get some closure, because that at least gives me some peace of mind,” Foster said. .

Action News 5 reached out to the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office, who told us they can’t confirm if any of the bones are human remains at this time.

Coahoma County Coroner Scotty Meredith confirmed he is waiting to hear back from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to begin digging in the area this week.
