A waiter reacts to serving Serena Williams at HomeGrown Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — HomeGrown Wichita at Naftzger Park, 645 E Douglas Aveserved a sports celebrity breakfast on Tuesday morning.

Scott Stice, a server at HomeGrown, says he started his shift like any other day.

He says that one of the guests he served had a familiar face.

“I didn’t quite get who it was,” Stice said.

It wasn’t until the woman left that he realized who it was.

“She was already out the door, and apparently several customers told their other servers that it was Serena Williams when she was walking out,” Stice said. “It didn’t occur to me who it was until they said it, and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ and it blew my mind because I never expected to ever serve Serena Williams.”

Brian Donnelly, director of operations at HomeGrown, says Williams ordered an ironman scramble, sweet potato pancakes and a mimosa shake.

“She was on her Instagram storyshe just shows us a picture of our menu and she’s debating what to order,” Donnelly said. “She’s talking about her Iron Man Wrench and then our sweet potato pancakes.”

Donnely says he loves when celebrities come to Homegrown because they are respected by Wichitans and people who dine there from the area.

“We like to have celebrities here because, for the most part, the guests are more honorable than them,” Donnelly said. “With Serena or Harrison Ford, when he comes to town, we don’t have people bothering them while they’re eating.”

Stice says he was glad to treat her like normal.

“I know a lot of people, you know, become a big deal and all that, and I was happy to be able to give her a regular service because I don’t know if she gets that very often.”

Stice says he will never forget it, ever.
