A man has been arrested for stalking a woman while wearing a Halloween mask

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (WMC) – A man is in jail after he allegedly chased a woman down the street while wearing a Halloween mask.

Southaven Police say that on Monday, October 17, just before 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to a suspicious person call.

The caller said a man wearing a white Halloween mask chased her down the street and only stopped when he saw her calling 911 on her cell phone.

While en route, the caller advised police that the suspect fled the scene in a white sedan.

The caller told dispatch that his fiancee followed behind the vehicle, heading east on Stateline Road past Tchulahoma Road.

Officers located both vehicles on Stateline Road west of Getwell Road and pulled them over.

The driver of the white passenger car was later identified as 22-year-old Rashe Jamoali French. Police demanded his driver’s license and for him to get out of the car while officers investigated the situation.

French told the police that he only had a document.

Police then spoke with the complainant, who said that as she was walking down Chaparral Lane, a man got out of a white car and chased her down the street.

She told police she screamed for help in fear of her life. She said when she reached a stop sign, the man stopped chasing her and started laughing.

French denied the allegations and told police he had never harassed anyone.

While officers were speaking with French, he said he was sitting in a car talking to a friend when he noticed a woman drive by.

She said she saw someone in a white Halloween mask chasing her.

French said the man stopped running and pulled off the mask, dropping it on the ground as he left.

He said he then got out of the car, picked up the mask and put it back in the car because it was a “cool Halloween mask.” French said he then drove off and observed the truck closely.

Police say French denied any involvement and said he did not know why the truck was following him. French claimed he was confused when the two were pulled over on Stateline Road.

France consented to a search of the car, stating that he had nothing to hide inside.

Police say a white mask matching the complainant’s description was found on the passenger side of the vehicle.

France was then arrested.

He was accused of assault – physical fear, as well as traffic violations.

French was then transferred to DeSoto Prison.
