7 celebrities who fled California and why

(KTLA) – While many people are enjoying life in California and can’t imagine calling anywhere else home, others are packing their bags and leaving them behind – including some of Hollywood’s hottest stars.

Recently, Mark Wahlberg announced that his family had recently moved from California to Nevada. The actor and businessman said that his decision stems from the desire to provide his children with a “better life”.

Wahlberg is married to model Rhea Durham and they have four children.

In 2020, TV show host and podcaster Joe Rogan announced his desire to leave California on his Spotify podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience”. Rogan said he left Los Angeles mostly because it was “overpopulated.”

“I want to go somewhere in the middle of the country … somewhere where you have a little more freedom. I think where we live right here in Los Angeles is a little crowded … I think that reveals the fact that it’s really a problem when you look at the number of people who are infected with COVID because of overcrowding,” Rogan said on the podcast episode.

“When you look at the traffic, the economic disparity, the homelessness problem … I think there are too many people,” he said.

Actress Rosario Dawson left California and moved in with her then-boyfriend, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, in 2020.

“I’m moving in with my boyfriend because, you know, it’s time. We were thinking about moving in together anyway. But especially during all of this, it’s been really intense,” Dawson told director Kevin Smith about the move to the Garden State, NJ.com registered.

Dawson and Booker broke up after more than two years of dating.

Busy Phillips

Actress Busy Phillips has also decided to leave the Golden State for the Empire State in 2020 with her screenwriter husband Marc Silverstein and their two children.

In an interview with ShondalandPhillips said she wanted to move because of health issues.

“I don’t know one freakin’ person in Los Angeles that doesn’t have irritable bowel syndrome. That’s why we all give up gluten and wheat, but maybe it’s the toxicity of the city. I don’t know, just a theory,” Phillips said.

“When the fires started again, I had a real moment when I turned to Marc and said, ‘We’ve got to go. We’ve got to get some fresh air’.”

U tweet as of 2020, SNL alum Rob Schneider has announced that while he loves California, it’s time to leave. He moved to Arizona.

“California, the land of my birth and where all my children were born, I have spent my entire life in your beauty,” the tweet read. “So it is with great sadness that we must part. But it’s time to leave #CaliforniaYouBrokeMyHeart.”

In October 2022, Schneider explained the shift Fox and friends.

“I really feel like I don’t want the Democratic Party trying to run my life. And there is no aspect of your life in which they do not want to interfere. I had it with them,” Schneider said. “So I got out of California and moved to the slightly more free state of Arizona.”

Chris Hemsworth

Thor actor Chris Hemsworth decided to leave the Golden State with his family in 2015, citing that he no longer needed to be in Hollywood to get film roles.

The family moved to Hemsworth’s homeland, Australia.

“We were in LA for six or seven years, and then when we got the chance to not be there full-time, it was good to come back to Australia,” Hemsworth told Daily mail.

Reports state that he has purchased a $7 million property in Bryon Bay, Australia, which serves as his permanent residence.

Although they may be one of Hollywood’s power couples, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds don’t live there.

After getting married in 2012, the couple moved to Bedford, New York, and haven’t looked back since.

The couple bought a $5 million property in the area.

E! News reported that residents described the couple as extremely likable and loving. They are prominent members of the community.
