At least six people, including a Chicago firefighter, were injured Sunday morning after a series of crashes that began after a collision on the Eisenhower Freeway.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded to a crash that happened in the westbound lanes near California Avenue around 4:54 a.m. Sunday.
While they were at the scene about 45 minutes after the crash, the sedan struck an ISP police car and a Chicago fire truck, according to authorities. Just moments after that crash, another sedan hit a tow truck that responded to the scene, police said.
A total of six people were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the accidents.
The crash closed all westbound lanes of the freeway for a little more than an hour for cleanup and investigation, but all lanes reopened around 7 a.m., police said.
No citations have yet been issued, but the investigation remains ongoing.
