The group is organizing a fundraising campaign to raise money to buy free clothes for EVSC students

Evansville, Indiana (WFIE) – The Hungers held their 11th annual Scooping for Students fundraising event at Bosse Field on Thursday.

This was the first year the event was held in person since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Food trucks lined up in the parking lot outside Bosse Field, encouraging the community to go out to buy a meal and donate to Hangers, a student clothing supplier at Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.

Each year, they help about 2,500 students by giving them $150 worth of free clothing.

β€œIt’s all about how we can help this student feel better about themselves and go to school,” said Dave Schott, Hangers CEO. “That’s what we’re trying to do – help school attendance – which, of course, helps the community by making more kids succeed in school.”

Organizers say they hope to raise $10,000 from the event. They hope to include food trucks for future fundraising events.
