Hartselle man convicted of rape and incest

Decatur, Ala (UF) – On Thursday, a Morgan County jury indicted a Hartselle man for first-degree rape, incest and second-degree rape.

In 2019, the Morgan County Department of Human Resources received anonymous advice about inappropriate text messages sent by convicted sex offender Brian Matthew Mills, 40 to a juvenile victim.

Following an investigation by the Decatur Police Department, Mills was arrested on charges of rape and incest.

Mills went through a three-day trial this week, presided over by Judge Stephen F. Brown and presided over by Assistant Attorney General Joe Lewis.

Trial jurors heard testimony from the victim in the case and a former victim of Mills. Jurors were also able to see text messages where Mills demanded that the victim have sex with him, referred to her as his wife and told her he wanted to get her pregnant.

Judge Brown will rule on Mills later this year. He faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
